Had a loooong few days at college, as I've started heading to the gym in the morning before college begins (gym from around 7am for a 90 minute workout, then onto college for the day), so not had much time or inclination to post. I have been reading your entries though, no worries about that.

Been looking at a friend's Tumblr pages today, as she tends to post very interesting photographs that either she's taken herself whilst out walking, or that others have taken in a similar way (nice photos of waterfalls and woodland areas, that kind of thing). She also posts random poems and musings, and one in particular caught my eye, mainly because I recognised it. Here it is:

"I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."

It's from the movie "10 Things I Hate About You" which was originally made as a teen flick based on Shakespear's The Taming of The Shrew, but the leading actors (Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger) made such a good job of it that I still enjoy watching it even now. That one scene in particular is her reading the poem out to him after he broke her heart, and she breaks down into tears towards the end. Always puts a lump in my throat that scene.

I think all of the excess guitar & bass playing over the past two weeks has taken it's toll on the tendons in both hands and both forearms. Playing a nice easy song yesterday on my accoustic left me feeling as though the muscles were completely numb, and left me feeling weak and barely able to replace the guitar back on its stand. This is rather concerning. Think I'll just take a break from playing until college on Monday now, and hopefully it'll sort itsself out. If this continues though I'm going to the doctors, no way am I letting this fuck up my future plans.

Oh, I also have a cold. The joys of a new year at college.

It appears that I've taken over as the band leader for my college band. No idea how this happened, as it wasn't a conscious decision, but I suddenly started taking the bull by the horns today and directing each individual musician, and the result was stunningly successful. I s'pose it helps that I'm older than the rest of them, and have been in many bands before, so I know how to handle musicians. I suppose it also helps being almost 2 metres tall and weighing about 140 kilos.

Either way, today we started to play a completely new song, and within an hour we'd mastered it, despite 3 band members never having heard it before. That song was the classic Ben E King hit Stand By Me, a song I have known and loved for most of my living memory. Am now working on getting them all to learn I Just Wanna Make Love To You, by Etta James (aka The Song From The Diet Coke Break advert). It's such an awesomely sexy song, and suits the theme of the gig we're doing very well.

Well hello there Dreamwidth, I've heard so many good things about you.

This is my first post to this new blog. Recently came here after using the same Livejournal blog for over 7 and a half years, only to be seriously creeped out by the activities of the mods over there. So here I am, hoping for some more privacy.

Have no idea what I'll be blogging about here. Knowing me, it'll be random musings and shite, with the odd music video thrown in for good measure. In the meantime, enjoy yerselves.
